Opened in September 2013, our community coffee shop is run by over 40 local volunteers. All profits go to the future maintenance and restoration of Penllergare.
You can enjoy fairtrade tea, speciality tea, ‘proper’ coffee (americano, latte, cappuccino etc.) or a soft drink – all served by local volunteers. Delicious homemade cake, traditional cream tea, toasted teacakes, plus a selection of sweets or healthy snacks are available.
We’re delighted to have Sian Day of Vintage Tea Company as our local supplier of homemade sandwiches and paninis. Sian was shortlisted as one of Hotel Indigo’s six finalists in Our Flavours of the Neighbourhood competition. We use local suppliers where possible.
Our coffee shop and car park are open 7 days per week. See our opening hours and parking page for exact times. Pop in for refreshments, for a chat with our volunteers or for further information about walks, history, wildlife, our Friends membership scheme and more. There is limited indoor space/tables available (seating approx. 8 people). Our outside terrace which is partly covered seats up to 35 people.
Blankets are available to keep you warm in the winter months as well as free dog treats for our canine friends. You can also borrow binoculars to spot wildlife from the terrace – we see a wide variety of birds visiting our bird feeder on a daily basis. Some reference books about the history of Penllergare and wildlife can also be borrowed while you have a spot of tea or coffee.
Dogs are more than welcome on the terrace provided that they are kept under control and on a lead.
If you are planning a group walk for 10+ people and intend on stopping at the coffee shop, please can you contact us in advance to ensure that we are prepared for your arrival. We can even reserve tables for you if it is busy.
If you would like to book a table or the whole terrace/coffee shop (out of hours), please contact us for further information.
Our coffee shop is fully accessible. There is also disabled parking and disabled toilet/baby changing facilities.
Please note: Access for people with limited mobility, wheelchairs and pushchairs around the estate is limited at present due to the steep nature of this historic picturesque site. Contact us for further information.
Community-run toilets are available at the coffee shop and are open from 10.30am – 3.30pm. Our toilets are maintained and cleaned by volunteers. We would be most grateful if you could help us to look after them.
