Day Flying Daubenton Bat
Captured by volunteer photographer Peter Thomas on Monday 14th March, this incredible shot of a Daubenton bat flying over the Upper Lake is quite amazing.
It was feasting on insects hatching in the warm Spring sun.
Bats will often move during daylight hours if the temperature or humidity levels go beyond their needs in either direction. They will also interrupt their hibernation for the same reason.
To see a bat hunting in the daylight is unusual, to capture it in a photograph is quite something else.
Thanks Peter, what’s the next challenge!
