12km of paths, steps and historic views have been opened up and uncovered by local volunteers for you to enjoy. Choose a lakeside stroll, a heritage trail, a wild woodland walk or a riverside ramble.
We are currently working on an interpretive tour of Valley Woods including maps, activity sheets and digital downloads. In the meantime, you can download our temporary map here or you can pick one up in our Community Coffee Shop on arrival. See our Top 10 Things to See and Do at Penllergare for inspiration. Please note: the printed leaflets contain an older version of this map and show Keeper’s Bridge, which has now been removed.
Most sites completely shut their doors when a restoration project is taking place. Here at Penllergare Valley Woods we want everyone to share the experience and get involved in any way that they can/want to.
With physical works taking place on a daily basis, please be careful and follow our Walkers Code to ensure your visit is a safe and enjoyable one. If you love Valley Woods and want to keep it safe, welcoming and open for everyone to enjoy, then please help us to look after it.
Please remember to:
- wear sturdy footwear
- be aware of uneven and slippery surfaces
- take care near water and steep drops
- protect wildlife, plants, trees and structures
- keep dogs under control – use bins provided
- take litter home with you
Please DO NOT:
- camp or light fires
- bring cars, motorbikes or quads into the woods
- bring horses into the woods
- swim or enter the water
Due to the nature of the site, it’s advisable not to walk in the woods when there are strong winds, extreme heavy rainfall or any other severe weather warnings.
Access for disabled people, wheelchairs and pushchairs around the estate is limited at present due to the steep nature of this historic picturesque site. The Carriage Drive is surfaced and offers some beautiful views over the valley. Our coffee shop is fully accessible and disabled parking, toilets and baby changing facilities are available. Please contact us for further information.
