This week you may have noticed work being undertaken in the woods near Middle Park. This work is a part of an important programme to improve the health of the Woods.

Over the coming weeks forestry contractors will be carrying out essential conservation work of tackling invasive plants at Penllergare. This work is being funded by the Local Places for Nature (LPfN) Challenge Fund.

This work will clear areas of rhododendron ponticum and cherry laurel. Both these plants are having a detrimental impact by outcompeting native flora and fauna.

Rhododendron Ponticum is also the host of a plant disease called phytophthora that can affect and kill other plants and trees. So the control of Rhododendron Ponticum is an important part of tackling this threat.

There may be some disruption to the public with some temporary path closures. This is essential to keep the public safe and allow contractors full access to the site.

We apologise for any inconvenience and will keep you updated..

Thank you for your co-operation.
