Conservation Assistant (Graduate Internship)
Salary £25,623 pro-rata (27.5 hours/week)
Part time / fixed term contract (9 months)
The Penllergare Trust is seeking a recent graduate for a conservation assistant internship at Penllergare Valley Woods.
Key to the protecting the Gower Gateway project, this role offers hands-on training to protect and restore woodland habitats. You will gather environmental data, manage invasive species, coordinate wildlife surveys, and lead volunteers in citizen science. Working with our Conservation Officer, you will also organize community events to inspire local nature champions.
Candidates must have a relevant degree, strong organisation skills, IT literacy (including GIS Mapping systems), and excellent communication skills. Practical experience in ecology, volunteering, event planning, and a driving license are desirable. A DBS check may be required.
This Graduate Internship is a part of our Protecting the Gower Gateway Project which is funded by the Nature Networks Programme, delivered by the Heritage Fund, on behalf of the Welsh Government.
Essential Criteria:
- Recent graduate with a relevant degree (or equivalent).
- IT literate, including GIS Mapping systems, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Strong organizational skills, high numeracy, and excellent communication skills.
- A keen interest to learn and a proven ability to work well in a team.
Desirable Criteria:
- Practical experience in ecology, conservation, or woodland management.
- Experience working with volunteers, young people, or the local community.
- Experience in event planning, social media, and marketing.
- Knowledge of H&S compliance and environmental/wildlife legislation.
- A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
The salary is £25,623 pro-rata for 27.5 hours per week. The full time week at Penllergare is 36.5 hours.
The 27.5 hours can be flexible to suit you, with most hours worked between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday. There will be occasional weekend and evening working within the 27.5 hours.
